Assorted Stuff

[livejournal.com profile] fj or [livejournal.com profile] veryfineredwine or anyone else...what does the immigration physical actually entail? [livejournal.com profile] zedrikcayne has his scheduled for tomorrow.

We've had some birds I can't identify in the yard lately. I enjoy watching them, but I'd love to know what they are. The body shape is similar to this but they have longer, thinner legs (I can't tell if they have webbed feet but I don't think so), they're all white, and they have narrower, pointier beaks. There's also a similar looking bird that comes around but with a longer, narrow, curved beak, which I'd wonder about being a heron, but we're not that close to water. The ones with the pointier beak,

Does anyone know which newspapers Diesel Sweeties is running in?

Funny, but despite the elevated temperatures, I don't have the usual crankiness that I get. I've been hungry like crazy though. I don't think I stopped eating yesterday, though most of what I ate was fruit or veggies. And I've been drinking lots and lots of tea.

Time to consider lunch, though I don't think there's anything interesting to eat.

I was quite alarmed, since the medic has to sign that there are no signs of "sexual deviancy" (wtf does that mean) and other such things, but actually he just took some blood, chatted with me for a minute or so about chess, and signed the form. I think they just want to keep syphilitic people out, or something like that.

Mine was also laid-back. The physician reviewed my bloodwork and immunisations. He then asked what medications I took (at that time) and if I'd ever been hospitalised since birth. He liked my answers, filled out the paperwork, and warned me that USCIS often loses paperwork and if that happens, to call, because his office keeps a copy of the report and the chart.

I think the only condition which completely bars a would-be immigrant is HIV infection; pretty much everything else is treatable or can be covered with a waiver. The most painful part of the exam was paying for it. (OK, I'm exaggerating a bit. The MMR shot hurt.)
