For the two of us, because we came from such different family traditions, we've worked hard to create ones that work for both of us that also recognize where we come from which could continue when we have children-things like our first night of Chanukah meal which is easy to continue. In my house growing up it was the pumpkin carving party just before Halloween...and I'd love to continue that tradition when she's a little older and can enjoy it.

It's the little things that make family time special though.

jake & i came from such different backgrounds too. they really had very little in the way of set family traditions, but we have lots of them. he's really enjoyed embracing new traditions & creating our own - he understands my family a lot better after all of these years!

when we had chase he *finally* understood the rationale behind opening family gifts on christmas eve & letting santa bring everything on christmas day. his family only celebrated christmas day, and my family basically celebrated christmas starting the day after thanksgiving! :)
