Women Say No to Palin

This post from slinkr pointed me at the very interesting blog Women Against Sarah Palin.

I sent an e-mail. As the mother of a daughter, I felt obligated to. Sarah Palin is not the kind of woman I want my daughter to look up to as the first woman to hold the office of Vice President of the United States of America.

Now if this daughter would nap...I'd be a much happier Mom.

Four and a half months ago, I gave birth to a daughter. While I want my daughter to grow up to know that she can do anything she wants to, including hold the presidency of the United States, I don't want Sarah Palin to be one of her role models on that path. I want my daughter to grow up to admire women who believe in her right to choose whether she wants to continue a pregnancy or not. I want her to value women who promote diversity and create community-the community organizers that Sarah Palin bashed in her speech at the convention. I want her to live in a world where she'll have role models who protect the environment, not attack it, so that she'll have clean air and clean water when she grows up. I want her to strive to be like women who believe that a society is responsible for taking care of those who need help, to get them on their feet, and provide a support system and safety net for those who fall through the cracks, not those who destroy the social programs designed to help those in need. I want her to admire women who believe that she should be able to read any book she wants, and not worry about women who try to ban books that conflict with their values. I want my daughter to grow up to see strong women who value the contributions of other women trailblazers, not the ones who move us backwards. I won't be voting for a ticket that includes Sarah Palin so that my daughter can have the kind of future that she deserves.

. . . but won't women speaking out against Palin just mobilize the chauvinist voters? You know, men who really don't think women should have the right to vote, and who are really thrilled that all those dykes and frigid spinsters are against a real woman? Hell, I'll register to vote just to spite them bitches!!

Then again, one can worry that anything at all will mobilize opposition voters.
