Interesting sticker

Seen on a car at the building I work in:

"If it's not a choice, you're not pregnant."

It's an interesting and different anti-choice sentiment. It doesn't change my mind, but it's certainly not the way it's usually said.

I tried to put this in the converse ("if it's a choice you're pregnant") to see if i could make sense of their point. I still don't get it. If you're trying to get me to be pro-life, you need to make a heck of a lot more sense than that!

"If it's a choice, you're pregnant" is not logically equivalent to the bumper sticker, but "If you're pregnant, it's a choice" would be, as per contrapositive inference. Which makes it sound kind of like a pro-choice stance. Which is what the original sounded like to me as well- if you don't have the choice, then you aren't pregnant. If you are pregnant, you have a choice.

I dunno. It's still confusing.

yeah i think if i really think about it, they're trying to say "if you managed to get pregnant, you chose to have sex". Which overall is a stupid argument because it leaves out any sort of forced participation, from the really bad stuff like rape all the way down to the man poking holes in his condom because he wants an heir. (do people still do that?)

I still think it sounds like a pro-choice message, personally. If you don't have a choice, that means you aren't pregnant. If you're pregnant, you have a choice.

Could also be a take-off on the "It's not a choice- it's a child" stickers. Which would also point towards pro-choice.

Personally, I can't figure any way of reading it that makes it anti-choice, unless there's some related info I'm just missing.

geminigirl, enlighten us! :)

*laugh* Okay, then.

I definitely still think it's a badly done sticker, in any case.

That makes no sense to me at all.

I read that one as pro-choice too - only pregnant women have to make the choice, the rest should shut up.

But the context... Hmm.
