What was or wasn't said...
May. 15th, 2002 01:10 amIt's unusual that things said at work really make my skin crawl. And so today, AA was hanging out in my office. I've been out of the office Monday and half of today. AA and I hadn't seen each other since Friday. He was sitting in my office, and we were chatting-just catching up kind of stuff; I was eating lunch.
A. comes by-we have a meeting scheduled at 2:30. He stuck his head in to check and see if I still wanted to meet...or did I need the time to catch up on things. I said "Yes, but let me finish my lunch first." He said something about don't worry-finish lunch, and we'll have time. "And besides, you have to catch up with your girlfriend."
Now, I'll admit, I have one gay guy friend who's referred to with a feminine pronoun, sometimes. And it's a longstanding friendship...someone I know from college. But it's not something I normally do. I don't know why. And I have to say, I'm not sure I understand why other people do it. I almost see it in the same way some people use "gay" as a put-down...you know, "That's so gay"-as if it were something less to be a girl/woman. Maybe I'm totally off...it's a cameraderie thing sometimes; I've seen it that way too. I just don't always understand it. And I suppose, sometimes it does make me squirm.
