I had a near panic attack today when I realized I had no idea where my birth certificate was. I'm really not together, and haven't yet renewed my passport, partly because I'm trying to actually figure out what I'm doing with my last name, and partly because there were just other things to do, thus I need my license and passport to travel to Canada...though next year I'll be required to have a passport to re-enter the US.

Speaking of my name...

No one seems to know what it is. Many people have asked (and the reality is, I'm not hung up on what people put on the holiday card envelopes.) Even my mother mixes it up when she feels like it. I got some packages addressed to Ms. (first name) (Cayne's last name) this week, and the one that arrived today was addressed to Mrs. (first name) (maiden name-Cayne's last name) and sometimes mail from her comes to Mrs. (first name) (maiden name) and so on. Pretty much every combination imaginable, Mom has used. I've been using first name maiden name Cayne's last name, without a hyphen for now...on the phone with my best friend Rachel last night, she pointed out that she did the same thing for a while after she got married, eventually dropping the maiden name part. I'll figure out what I want to do eventually...my license says first name middle name maiden name last name right now.

Cayne's holiday party was on Saturday night at the Hard Rock. After wondering what exactly "Dress to Impress" meant, (to which our friend Su pointed out "For some of these guys, it means "take a shower,") I ended up in black palazzo pants, an eggplant tank top and matching duster with glittery details. According to Cayne, I looked really nice. It was a lot of girls in little black dresses, as I expected, but there was a pretty wide range of dress. It may however, be time to upgrade my black dress. We'll see. I do have to begin the dreadful task of shopping for something to wear to my cousin's wedding, which is in March. The party itself was fun, I spent some time complaining with other wives about having to go to these sorts of things, and sitting out on the steps of the Hard Rock just chatting about things.

We leave for Canada in just a few days...still need to find someone who can drive us to the airport on Friday (and hopefully even pick us up, but since our flight is scheduled to land at 11:45, I'm not pushing for that.) Tonight the friends who are watching our cats are coming over so we can show them where everything is, and how to give Gizmo her medication, and to go out to dinner.

Then there's laundry and packing and getting ready to go. I can't believe it's already the end of December.

I totally forgot to share Emma's Blog...she's an incredibly funny, sassy, thirtysomething, Jewish woman who was transplanted to Orlando from southern California. She actually expresses some of how I feel about being here in Orlando in an amusing sort of way, but she's just funny in general.

(Emma's husband works with mine, at the evil game company.)
