Jun. 11th, 2008 07:46 pmApparently I healed beautifully. I had my post partum check up today. The poor PA student with the doctor though...the guy looked shocked when he heard I had a natural childbirth and horrified when he heard that labor was nearly 36 hours. Dr. Parker also pointed out that he had real reservations about talking to me about a c-section when things seemed to be dragging on and on. It's nice to be respected by a doctor and to have my input valued.
But, Dr. Parker also complemented me while I was there and asking for new prescriptions. He pointed out to the student that I was "medically knowledgeable" and when I asked about temporarily adjusting my thyroid dose until I saw the endocrinologist (he offered to draw a tsh I told him I'd had it done he asked what it was, I told him and said "not out of range but higher than Dr. A and I like it" he started telling the med student that I was smart and that he would write the new prescription but that it was good that I was only asking for the next step up in Synthroid dose and all sorts of other nice things.
He also complemented Maggie, and told me he has her card out and is trying to help make sure she gets some clients.
I appreciate the relationship I have with Dr. Parker and the fact that I can ask for things and get them when they're reasonable. I still want to have #2 at home, in the water, but I do feel strongly that I have a good OB if I need to go that route again.
Oh, and while I was strongly advised to wait another six months before trying for number 2, it's apparently okay when we're ready. And seriously, we're not anywhere near ready, or as I put it "one has to want to have sex in order to try and get pregnant." We talked about whether to go straight to Clomid or not, and Dr Parker did remind me that sometimes once you've had one, it's much easier the second time, and not to rely on the fact that it was so hard to get pregnant this time as a predictor of the second. (It was seven months on Metformin alone, a month or two on Metformin and Synthroid and two cycles with Met, Synthroid and Clomid, a total of ten or so months to get pregnant.) We may go straight to Clomid, we may not. I think it depends on how Cayne and I are feeling when we're ready. We may try a couple of cycles on our own first, but not as many as we did last time.
Six months from now would put babies about 17 months apart. I was born at the end of May 1975. My sister was born at the beginning of November 1976. If we were to get pregnant right away (ha!) these babies would be about that far apart. I don't remember life without my sister (though I do remember life without my brother, who was born in July of 1978.)
