Jul. 28th, 2002 09:48 amMy ex girlfriend's dog died very suddenly this morning; I woke up to the e-mail about it. She was a wonderful human to her dog, and I loved him very much. I bought him some venison sausages the other day, which I hadn't yet dropped off at her place. This woman is one of the best pet owners I know, and that makes it even more painful. There were just no signs of illness until Saturday evening.
Pet owners among us know about the vital role our animals play in our lives. We know how connected we get to our creatures. Much as I complain about the fur Oblivion leaves around the house, how she wakes me with her toys in the middle of the night, or leaves the toys in my bed, and even when she makes me crazy because she's thrown up in her food dish again, I do cherish the relationship I have with her. I do appreciate the warmth and the cuddling. There's the way she comes over and licks my fingers if I'm on the couch, or when she's under the desk, and wants my attention how she'll lick my toes (which makes me squeal) or stretch herself up and pull on my arm with a front paw until I pay attention. And she has to climb on
aquariumgirl and shed on her everytime she comes over-it must be especially exciting because Oblivion is all white, and aquariumgirl's clothing is almost always dark. Oblivion also insists on spending time with me at bedtime on many evenings...climbing on my chest while I read, and purring and staying until I fall asleep.
Give those you love in your life some extra attention today-the people and the creatures. Let them know they're important to you.
I have to go...there's a cat who is demanding breakfast.
