Getting things done
Aug. 4th, 2002 08:46 pmI set out four tasks that I wanted to do this weekend...
1. Clean Fridge
2. Mop Kitchen Floor
3. Clean Litter Box
4. Grocery Shopping
And somehow, I managed to do them all. Not just do them all, but seriously manage to get out of the house by 1 PM to get the grocery shopping done.
I like grocery shopping, pushing the cart through the aisles, comparing things and choosing what I want. Especially in the summer when the stores smell of peaches and nectarines and such. And I'm rather leisurely about it-I usually budget about an hour to shop. So I went, with my list, and found the things I wanted, and a few things that I hadn't planned on purchasing. I finish my shopping, and get in line. A woman joins the line behind me with one item (I'm not in the express lane either) and so I let her go in front-there's no point in making her wait with just one thing. In front of her was a woman with a WIC check. (WIC is "Women Infants and Children" is a federal program that is authorized annualy by congress to provide nutritional food and information to pregnant and breast feeding women, and children up to age five. It's not foodstamps, but a separate program, and people are often eligible for both.) WIC checks are very limited in what they're allowed to be used for-not just what, but even the brands. So the WIC woman had picked up some cheese, (many cheeses are authorized WIC foods) but when the cashier scanned it, it came up as inelligible. And the WIC woman threw a fit. And ranted. And then disappeared to find out why that cheese said on the shelf that it was okay and the register said not. (My guess is she didn't read the shelf labels carefully.) And then went to find a manager...and essentially held up the line for fifteen minutes making a scene, and getting into a shouting match with the checker and the manager and the woman behind her. Needless to say, it took me nearly an hour longer than I'd planned to do the grocery shopping.\
Unfortunately, this sort of thing seems to happen every time I go grocery shopping and end up in line with someone using a WIC check to pay for groceries. Perhaps things just aren't labelled well enough in the store.
I got home, got groceries away, at some lunch, and would have loved a nap. It wasn't happening. Dinner is now in the oven...(Mom's comfort casserole) and with the extra chicken I've made chicken salad, and quesadillas, which will go into the oven when the casserole comes out. I'll have plenty of lunches made this week-which is always nice.
Didn't get laundry done because I didn't get quarters on Friday...I can get that done one evening this week. Too hot to iron clothes too; it's supposed to cool off quite a bit. Then again, I just realized that I can go casual (Jeans) four days a week for the next three weeks...(Teaching Monday, Tuesday and Thursday during the day is a bonus. Plus Friday which is usually jeans anyway.)
Tupperwear party on Tuesday night...I need to make sure I plan time to drive all the way out there at rush hour. I should mail back the Netflix stuff too...
aquariumgirl and I are almost through the Kevin Smith movies.
It seems like there are always things to be done. And never enough time to do them.

Date: 2002-08-04 08:38 pm (UTC)Mom's comfort casserole is chicken, noodles, broccoli or peas or peas and carrots, tossed together with cream of mushroom soup. It's so good.
My Mom hates mushrooms though, so she never ate it. It was just a way to use up leftover poultry.

It sounds like your energy level was a bit up yesterday (no?). That would be great, if so!

Date: 2002-08-05 02:32 pm (UTC)My energy seems to come and go...most of the time it's notiably lower than it used to be, but I'll have a day or two, lately of feeling really good...unfortuntaly I still haven't learned not to overdo it; mostly because I haven't figure out what "overdo" means at this point. And on the same note, because I think part of me mentally isn't coping with the fact that for right now, until I get better, or figure out what's going on, things just aren't going to be the same way that they used to. If I had a more definitive answer than "yes, there's something wrong" it might be easier-at least then I'd feel like I had information, resources, something to go on. Instead, I'm just left kind of hanging.
I need a nap now I think...
