Aug. 29th, 2002 11:31 amDoing the parts of my job that I don't like (namely, making calls to sites) is so much easier when people act excited to hear from me.
I'm doing everything I can at the moment to avoid the big projects...monthly report (which is easy) and some other things that I'm supposed to be working on. But it's early in the day and I've gotten through a great deal of what I need to on my to-do list. A few things have had to be shifted around until next week, which means there are fewer and fewer things to do. And five more hours here at the office.

Date: 2002-09-01 11:48 pm (UTC)I'm trying to figure out where I'm going for Kol Nidre-I'm going to my parents for Rosh Hashana, and with Dolfin (my non-livejournal girlfriend) on Yom Kippur during the day. When I go with Dolfin, we go to her schul in Leesburg (Loudoun County Jewish Center, I think) which is very small and WAY WAY WAY more conservative than I'd choose if it were for me.
My personal preference, when I go to schul is < href="http://betmishpachah.org/">Bet Mischpacha, which is the gay and lesbian one (they call themselves egalitarian) that meets at the DC-JCC. They're kinda touchy-feely, and I guess I'd classify them as reconstructionist, not reform, but I like their style. (I grew up in a reform schul...my Dad had been raised Orthodox, and my Mom's parents influential in one of the first Reform schuls in their community...so my religious upbringing was, um confused.) They've always felt very open and welcoming to me, and I like the attention to gender neutrality and including women as a valuable and significant part of what's going on. If I join any schul down here, I suspect it will be that one. I've found that since I'm also financially strapped much of the time, they're much more welcoming in that regard than anyone else I've talked to. Which brings me to my next point...
High Holiday tickets are exorbitant. Last year I think the DC-JCC was helping people out by connecting them with tickets at a reasonable price, but I don't know how much flexibility there was in choosing schuls. If money is an issue for you, the JCC might be a place to call-I didn't see anything on their website about it, but I happened to catch an ad in the City Paper last year. Bet Mischpacha was also always very generous with tickets...they request a $100 donation, but will give away tickets for whatever you can give, even if it's nothing. (They've said similar things about membership stuff to me, and I may after the holidays give it some more serious thought.) The other option for less expensive tickets is the Universities....GW I think holds services, and Maryland might be as well.
I may be looking for a place to go for Kol Nidre, depending on whether or not I go with family up in Maryland, or not, and I should know that in a day or two. Keep me posted on where you're going, and if I don't go with family, maybe we can hook up to go.
As for non-holiday get togethers...my work schedule may be changing this week, and for the rest of September (at least) so before I promise anything, let me find out what it's going to be. We can always go to

We can always go to <a href="http://www.javashack.com/"Java Shack</a> up in Arlington one afternoon if we want. What hours do you work on the days you're at the theatre?
