I bought a bottle of wine called "menage a trois" today. (Actually two of them-I have no idea if it's any good, but I mostly want to open the botle of wine when my in laws visit, and see what my father in law says-it's turnabout for the sexually flavored e-mails I get from him that I don't care for.)

And my husband would like to know if it was appropriate or inappropriate when someone from HR said to him "That's okay, rumpled is the new sexy." He wore a brightly printed hawaiian style shirt on Friday, and when he'd hung it to dry he'd hung it in such a way that it ended up with a crease. He wore it to work anyway (I didn't see it on him before he left to point out the wrinkle.)

X is the new Y is generally inappropriate, because it's became such a cliche. But the person wasn't calling him sexy, and was only obliquely and probably not intentionally callimg the look unsexy. They were saying it was as good as sexy—in other words, that the look was acceptable.

probably inappropriate, but it wouldn't be something I'd worry about unless this person had made comments before or continued to make increasingly inappropriate comments.
