I'd been on one side and piled pillows on the other side while we were going to sleep. The doorbell rang, I got up to answer it and found that she'd squirmed her way onto one of the pillows and fallen asleep like that. So I took a picture.
All my kids preferred their stomachs. Danny slept on his stomach with his butt in the air. I don't have any of those pictures scanned. I should do that in my copious spare time :).
I am sure part of the reason many babies sleep better on someone is that we let them sleep on their tummies when they are on us but don't when we put them down.
Now that she rolls over in her sleep, she seems to sleep longer for her long stretch at night. Both of the adults in the house are enjoying the nights she goes down between 8 and 9, wakes between 12 and 1 to eat and then goes back to sleep until 7 or 8. Cayne, in particular likes those nights because they both get a good night's sleep, but he also gets some time to spend with her in the morning having cuddles and play.

Date: 2008-10-14 11:32 pm (UTC)I showed my friend Caleb for a nap the other day. The difference between #1 and #2
#1 in the middle of an empty crib, no blankets, no bumpers on back.
#2 laying on a crib, with a fleece blanket on top of the sheets, on the tummy, with a little blanket on his back.
The reason why SIDS deaths are less common with back to sleep is that babies don't sleep on their back :)

This photo is now my desktop though.

Even if she pressed her face into that pillow, she'd be fine. I'm sure she's got loads more neck control than a newborn. :)
