This is where I talk about menstruation

For those of you who can't or don't want to read about it, I promise there are no bloody details, gory messes or embarassing menstrual moments. Although I am PMS-y today, so if I do bite your head off, I apologize in advance. (You can just ask Oblivion, I've kicked her off the keyboard, and that never happens.)

So here's the thing...

Someone posted to both menstrualhut and vaginapagina and asked "What were you doing when you got your first period?"

Aside from the fact that it just didn't seem like a huge thing to me, I have only vague memories of it. But what I'm bugging out over is the girls who are writing that they got theirs for the first time in 2000, or 2002, or whatever. I feel old when I read that; I've had mine for more years than not. Just sort of an odd, old feeling, PMS moment.


Ick.

I don't remember the exact moment I got it, though it likely involved using the bathroom and noticing a spot. I do, however, remember discreetly whispering "where do you keep the maxipads" to Mom in my parents' office, and she exclaimed something loud and embarrassing to the effect of "Oh, my baby's growing up!" in front of all the secretaries. Grrr....
