I have a group right now...seven girls, all in a substance abuse treatment program. They range from about 14 to 17 years old.
Of the seven girls, five identify as bisexual, one as questioning and one as heterosexual.
There's a substantial body of research about the connection between sexual orientation and substance use/abuse. What I wonder about though is is the bisexual identity resulting from behavior they engaged in as a result of substance abuse, are they substance abusers because it was part of coping with bisexuality, are they identified as bisexual because of influence from the peer group, or what? Not that I'll actually get a chance to find this out, but it's interesting to think about.
