So Many Rainbows
Jun. 9th, 2002 10:38 pmSo yesterday, I was musing about not wanting to go to Pride, about it being an obligation this year and so on.
I went. I had fun. I kissed a girl.
Of note about DC Pride Parade:
1. Serious lack of scantily clad women. (Bad)
2. Total lack of protestors. (Good)
3. Wedding party (Bride, Groom, bridesmaids and other attendants) and several guests, all in formal wear getting trapped in the middle of a crowd in DuPont Circle and getting stared at. (Weird)
I ran over and kissed Liz when we went past her, which was really nice. It left me wearing her lipstick...which got me teased by several co-workers. But I love that...that girl-kissing-wearing-her-lipstick thing.
We were organized so we had some of the peer educators up front carrying the program banner, and a couple of staff at the back carrying the agency banner-keeping the kids together and keeping them moving. Our banner has a big V in the middle, and in the V is a flame. (our logo) It was a bit breezy yesterday and the banner kept blowing back up against us...and I had gotten stuck in the middle...which meant, by the V. So A. turns around, says "Hey...the V and the flame are right between your legs." I look at him, smile cutely and say, "well, it's not the first time there's been a flame between my legs."
It's incredible to watch people experiencing their first Pride...just exciting and watching people see so many queer people in one place for the first time, and so many rainbows. I sometimes wish I could capture that feeling again...it's still fun and exciting to experience it, but not the same as the first time.
Post-Parade, Liz and I were hanging out by Dupont Circle, and I was kissing and biting her a bit...just nuzzling kinds of stuff. Two female cops stopped to check out what was going on...disapprovingly. Hello...all the hands were visible, all the clothes were on and my goodness it was Pride. It's not like we were having sex...
Suffice it to say, Saturday's parade was fun. More of a crowd than I thought for an evening parade and such a short route. They did put us, with our kids right near some of the leather groups...that was interesting; a bunch of questions to answer about it.
And then, there was the street festival Sunday. Downtown, within sight of the Capitol Building...
And that was my Pride weekend...plus serious allergies. I took some photos, if anything comes out nice, I'll put it on the web somewhere. Took some pictures of Oblivion too. It's late here...should take drugs and get some sleep.
