So, I suspect many of us are familiar with the use of the word "gay" to mean something bad, or disliked...as in "oh that's so gay!" And some of us have probably complained about it too...

in contrast, more and more often, I'm hearing things like "no man, I'm straight" to mean "I'm good" or "I'm fine."

"Straight" is also used interchangeably with "sober"...

Yep. As is "clean" but in the context I hear it most times it's for "good" or "fine".

And "on the straight and narrow" has nothing to do with sexuality. Walking a straight line. Etc. It's a pretty multipurpose word. ( I almost typed multi-porpoise )

It's a context thing...the people I hear that particular phrase from are not likely to use it in the context you're talking about at all...and to call someone/something gay or faggy as an insult.
