Are there any gurus on my friends list who could help me get some spam filtering (preferrably procmail, but anything would work) set up on my shell account before I leave for California next week? I'm just not comfortable doing that myself, I don't have the knowledge or skills to do it.

Help? Really.

that depends...

sorry. i'm only versed in non-unix mail programs. it's been a long time since i've used pine. i could probably figure it out, but i don't even think i have access to a pine version anymore.

check with [livejournal.com profile] popefelix. he said he was just now trying to install linux from scratch, and he's far more geeky than i. tell him i sent you, but do'nt tell him where i sent you.

Get a copy of Spam Assassin. Once that's set up, you only have to add two rules (simple ones at that) to your procmailrc file.
# Spam Assassin!!
:0fw
| /usr/binspamassassin

:0:
* ^X-Spam-Status: Yes
Spam

Good luck!
