Sep. 16th, 2003 04:22 pmWe had a meeting about hurricane preparedness today at work, and were reminded that we should save all our documents to the network drive, not just the local drive...
Geniuses that we are, I asked "where's the server, in the phone closet, right?"
"Yes."
Our phone closet which gets damp any time it rains, and causes problems with our telephones...
If something happened to our office, there's a pretty good chance that our server would get blown away with it. I don't trust our IT guy enough to think we've got current back ups...I think it's time for offsite back ups. I'll break out the CDs tomorrow and burn my important stuff onto there.

Date: 2003-09-16 01:21 pm (UTC)Thanks for your vote of confidence. I seriously doubt anything serious will happen to machines at work, but I admit to not having a lot of my stuff backed up, so it's not a bad idea now anyway.

Has he at least installed antivirus software?

Date: 2003-09-16 01:36 pm (UTC)He does need a swift kick. I don't like him, I don't trust him. I think he's manipulative, and often gives us less information than we need, and less control than we could handle, so that we need to call him in to take care of minor problems.
If I hadn't figured out what the administrator password for my machine was, I'd probably still be without acrobat reader, and winzip (and a few other things, but we're not supposed to know about those.)
