She knows better
May. 25th, 2002 12:26 pmSo,
lcohen why is it that you seem to know about me better than I do? Like telling me last week that I really was in fact sick when I didn't think so. And a bunch of other stuff that I'm not posting here.
For those of you who didn't hear me whine on IRC...last week I was running fairly low grade fevers...and I almost never get a fever, even when I'm really sick. Running one, and having no symptoms other than a fever was quite bizarre, and disconcerting. But it was a fever...there were no other symptoms of anything. So I slept a bunch, stayed extra-well-hydrated, and took some tylenol when it got out of control. I mean-I'm a grown up, I probably caught some bug that couldn't decide what it wanted to do, and it would go away in a few days. It only got above 100 (which is pretty high for me, since normally my temperature hovers somewhere around 96 or 96.5) one day, and I took the day off and slept.
lcohenhad been reminding me to go back to the doctor since my asthma was suddenly out of control again, after having been incredibly well controlled for years. I finally got around to making an appointment for that (with a fantastic NP, by the way) and the woman looks in my throat and says "Are your tonsils always this big?" I said I know they're big, I'm prone to tonsillitis, I'd had a fever the week before but I hadn't had a sore throat or anything. The woman did a throat culture (and complemented me on my technique-I don't gag anymore when they stick the q-tip in my throat. No comments from the pervert's gallery here, thanks.) despite my saying that I didn't feel sick.
Bam. The throat culture came back positive for strep throat. I was completely surprised-I hadn't felt any symptoms, didn't have a red throat or the patches I get when I catch tonsillitis.
And it's been a real nuisance trying to figure out who I might have given it to...I know who I've been kissing, but it's things like sharing drinks with that I'm wondering about.
Anyway, thanks
lcohen
