Beta is about six months old. It's a well established fact that he's not very bright. I'd bought him a collar and gotten his tag months ago, but never put it on him, thinking he'd be too small for it and slip it off. He's going to the vet on Tuesday though, so I thought it wise to put it on him, if it fit. And it did.
Beta has usually been able to track Oblivion because her collar has a bell on it. I bought him the same collar in a different color. (It's a safety collar which will pop if it does get caught on anything.) So his collar has a bell. Now, when I bought her collar, she fussed a bit about being made to wear a collar, but didn't go crazy. Perhaps a previous owner had made her wear one. She also couldn't hear the bell.
In the 10 or 15 minutes since Beta has had his collar on, he's tried to eat his tag (which he can't do because he can't get it into his mouth) and run around the house back and forth and back and forth, totally confused about where the jingling is coming from. He's quite disturbed by the bell.
It's a combination of amusing and cruel all at once. I'm sure he'll be fine once he gets used to it, but that may take a while.
