Exploding things!
Jul. 6th, 2003 12:14 amLets see...
Fireworks and games and picnic yesterday on the Mall with
aquariumgirl and her husband.
View from a wheelchair is very different from usual. There's no way I could have managed the trip downtown yesterday without the wheelchair I borrowed. And in the process, learned a lot. The lender had a great many suggestions about travelling too...things I'd never have known to do, like arrange with the airline in advance to get a wheelchair-like when you make your flight arrangements. You can always decline it if necessary, but its harder to get one when you get there if you haven't prearranged it.
(Girlfriend rocks...she pushed me around in the chair too. And we had a tent when we were downtown!)
I'm glad I can still get excited about fireworks. And there's really something special about watching them with the Capitol behind you, the Smithsonian on either side, and the Washington Monument in front.
Today was supposed to be spent doing a few things in the house (which didn't get done, but that's okay) followed by errands with
aquariumgirl. The home stuff got scrapped when Scott called, and we were discussing the trip. And we did...we went to the mall and got new glasses (she wasn't planning on it but as I was trying on mine, she tried on a few pairs too, and found funky fresh hip tortise shell frames that look so cute (and very different, for those of you who have seen her) on. And she got them. I got new sunglasses (finally) and two cute pairs of purple glasses. Will post pictures or something eventually. We also cruised the digital cameras...I'm thinking it wouldn't be the worst idea to invest in one before the California trip. Then we wandered to Macys, where I ended up picking up a few things, and back to pick up her glasses, and my sunglasses. (others won't be ready for a few more days.) Then off to see Legally Blonde 2, although we just missed the show, we went to Ruby Tuesdays, got some Queso and chips, and dessert to kill time. The movie had some great lines, some that were extrafunny having lived in DC, and having worked (although marginally) in political stuff. (I spent some time working for a labor union, and a lot of my projects were legislation related...Railroad retirement stuff, and cab safety standards and so on.) As much as I want to write about one in particular, I won't because there are plenty of people who havent seen it yet.
Tomorrow is for random things that need to get done to prepare for Monday, and doing things that got put off today. I'm out of my office most of this week doing training, I think.
