I spent last weekend in New Jersey, having travelled up for the wedding of
tactisle and
shirleym. Which I have to say, was one of the nicest weddings I've ever been to, because it was spiritual and moving, because you could feel the love between the partners, and the love the community had for the partners. And all kinds of other things. But it was unquestionably one of the most incredible things I've had the opportunity to share in.
Before the wedding started, I was talking to
catling, who I hadn't seen in many many months. One of the children at the wedding (Cory, for those of you who know him) came over and asked if she and I were sisters. And we looked at each other and she replied "No. Not by blood anyway." It was among the defining moments of the weekend, for me.
I came home filled with love, but also with a greater appreciation and understanding of the community I'm a part of, of the "family of choice" that I have. And came home incredibly homesick, not so much for the places I left, but for the feelings, for the heart-home that I'm away from. The whole chosen family makes more sense now. And I have a wonderful one. A family I miss dearly, and would like to be back with.
