Blither, Blither
Jul. 1st, 2004 10:04 amLet's see....
Had Z104 on in the car this morning. Aside from the fact that I like Brett Haber far less on his own than I did when he had Erin with him (cause now he sounds too much likeIdiot Elliot in the Morning) [1] Haber was just really lame this morning. He had Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy on to talk about Before Sunset -their new movie. (Before Sunset is the sequel to Before Sunrise, which is a nice, romantic, movie about two people who meet on a train, and have only one night to spend together and then they leave each other.) Did they talk much about the new movie? No. Did Julie Delpy say much of anything? No...Brett Haber was talking to Ethan Hawke the whole time about his marriage, about his career, and whatnot. Grrr.
Lets see...last Saturday...I spent part of the day doing stuff for National HIV Testing Day. For anyone familiar with my neighborhood, who knows that people call it a "bad neighborhood" you should know that the neighborhood I was in was worse. It's not a neighborhood I'd never been in before-we have a client site there, but it's one I don't particularly like going to. I get there, my boss arrives, we set up, and I ask her if she wants a cup of coffee. And I walk over to the 7-11 around the corner to get it. Upon my return, I discover that another co-worker has arrived. And is absolutely shocked that in this particular neighborhood, I'd walk to the 7-11 (about a quarter of a mile, if that) alone. I might have been less inclined to do it alone if it were night time, but it was broad daylight outside. I may not like it, but I know how to do it...how to walk and watch but not look-look through, or past people, and whatnot. Its a way of being aware of surroundings, of soaking it all in.
Went to the rally against HB751 last night. There were probably 1500 or so people there. It was an interesting crowd...a lot of professional looking people who had probably stopped to do this on the way home from work, some high school/college students, some families with children. Mostly good speakers-Jay Fisette from the Arlington County Board of Supervisors, the president of one of the Jewish women's organizations (not Hadassah)-of which I didn't catch the name, Some church-type people, someone from one of the business organizations, who made some very good points about the negative business impact the law could have, and how this law and other Virginia laws (like the one that prohibits companies from providing health insurance to unmarried couples) are bad for business, and encouraging businesses not to move to Virginia. Lots of talk about how Virginia responded to orders to desegregate schools fifty years ago, especially the kind of thing that happened in
Prince Edward County, and "Massive Resistance"
I'm wondering what the crowds will be like for Spiderman this weekend...see it or wait?
[1]I've had beef with Elliot ever since he was doing the Z Morning Zoo with Elvis on Z 100 in New York. I once told him that he was the kind of guy who made me glad I dated women.
