Family Secrets
Aug. 26th, 2008 10:40 pmSo I got sucked into Facebook. Which I'm still trying to figure out, like how to find all the good stuff.
But, I put fewer personal details out on Facebook than I do on LJ...perhaps it's the affiliation with my real name or something. And so my brother is my friend on Facebook, and so is my nephew, who will turn sixteen in October.
I checked out my nephew's profile, because, well, why not? And because he's my nephew, and I want to know what he's into.
And I noticed that under the part of the profile that says "Interested In" he's put "men."
Okay. I'm a little surprised, but things have changed since I was in high school, for sure. (I graduated fifteen years ago.) I'm not entirely surprised...I kind of had a hunch about that, but I'm still a little surprised.
More than that, I'm worried. I'm worried especially about how his Mom and Dad might react if they don't yet know. I'm not going to say anything. If he's got it on his Facebook page, and he's got me as a friend on Facebook, he's either okay with my seeing it or assuming I wouldn't look. And I'm just going to leave it alone. He'll talk about it when he's ready. And I hope I'll know what to say.
