Baby Stuff...
Aug. 1st, 2009 08:28 pmI just bought a second hand Medela Lactina, for a very, very good price. While the Pump in Style I used last time is perfectly acceptable, with all the breastfeeding stuff I went through last time, I had planned on renting the hospital grade pump in the beginning anyway...and when I saw this one offered for sale, for a very reasonable price, and when I found out from Medela that it wasn't in fact a stolen pump (as ones offered for sale often are-if you're thinking about buying one, get the six digit code from the top of the pump and call Medela for verification.) My insurance company offers a less high quality pump at twice the price I just paid. And while maybe I won't have those kinds of problems again, I'm going to anticipate challenges, prepare for them and hope for the best. All I want this time is more than I could get with Naomi. I'm not even going to think about not having to supplement...and if it turns out I don't, all that much better.
My kid is making noises that sound like orgasm noises. I'm laughing. She's sitting with Cayne reading "That's Not My Pirate" with him and making these breathy, moaning noises, punctuated by the occasional shriek. It's disturbing but funny.
Starting to get ready for the baby's birth-figure out what we need to do, get the house organized. I need to pick paint for the bedroom that will become Naomi's, and find a bureau for her, and maybe a second hand changing table, depending on the height of the bureau. Still need to sort out a support person for Naomi-finding someone who I'm okay having around during labor/birth and with taking Naomi away if needed is hard...
My parents sent Naomi another package...Dad called me the other day and said, "I sent a package for Naomi. It should be there on Friday or Monday." I assumed by "package" he meant "small box that contains little stuffed animals or books or other similar things they seem to acquire for her." Instead, today, a carton arrived at my house. In the carton was a beautiful, toddler sized chair. Mom and Dad found it last weekend while on their way to my uncle and aunt's house, and bought it...and then discovered it cost twice as much to send it to us. We bought Naomi a little chair last weekend, which we've put in the family room. I'm going to put this one aside until we finish rearranging bedrooms and I'll put it in her new room.
My parents spoil Naomi a bit. Not excessively-they're not going to turn her into the kind of child who expects a gift every time Grandma and Grandpa are around, but they do treat her. Part of that is guilt-they're feeling badly that they're far away and don't see her very often, and part is simply that they love her, and they're grandparents so they get the privilege of doing things like that for her-with the understanding that if I ever feel like it's excessive, I can tell them so. But I worry a little that with the second one coming this winter, that they won't be treated equally, though I think my parents will do their best. But there's something special about being the oldest, and I hope that she never loses out on that special relationship.
