Miriam gets physical therapy twice a week at a pediatric clinic affiliated with Florida Hospital. For some reason, there are no toys in the waiting room, though there is a kid-sized table and a TV that plays Toy Story (it's the only video I've ever seen them play in the five or so months we've been going.) I don't get the lack of toys, but whatever-it's not a big deal.

What I really don't get is the parents who bring other children along for therapy sessions and bring nothing for the children to do and then sit in the waiting room (often on their cell phones) ignoring the children or only talking to them when they misbehave and do things like climb on the magazine rack.

Monday when we go I often have only Miriam with me, and even when that's the case I have things for her in the diaper bag. Wednesdays, I usually have both kids with me, and so Naomi and I have to sit in the waiting room while Miriam is doing her therapy. I usually bring crayons and paper for her because that's one of her favorite things to do right now, but I also had a toy camera, a spinny disk, and a few other things that live in the diaper bag. I knew I had a child who was going to need entertaining for the hour-ish we were going to be there (waiting in the waiting room+therapy session+Miriam needed Nom when we were done.)

I feel like if I have a child with me, I need to also make sure to set reasonable expectations for the child's behavior (for example, on Wednesday, when my kids often miss naps because of the therapy schedule, I need to be a little more low key in our activities for the afternoon and I need to expect that things like dinner may be a little more challenging,) and to provide things for the child to do when necessary-I can't expect my two year old to sit in a waiting room for almost an hour with nothing to do and so I have to help amuse her.

So is it me, or are they the weird ones?
