In other news, I got a lovely pen as a Chanukah gift from

And I have a sore throat-still/again which is no fun. Again. I really wish it would go away.
Naomi shocked me yesterday-we were at McDonalds in between yoga and Miriam's PT appointment and instead of going in the toddler play area she decided to go into the big kid area. She climbed half way up the big tree-stair thing, turned around, waved at me and said "Hi Mama!" As I'm wondering how to get her back down (because going in there would seriously give me panic attacks) she turned around, climbed up the rest of the way, crawled across the tunnel, stood up and hung out at the top of the play area. And then she looked at the big, enclosed, twisty slide and sat on it and slid down. When she appeared at the bottom she looked up at me with the biggest grin on her face, raised her arm in the air and said "We did it!" I'm sure she has no idea why I'd be freaked out.
Tammy, the yoga instructor and I were talking the other day, and she commented on my child-rearing. She said "You know, you're raising these incredibly well adjusted kids. And then you'll send them to public school or something and that will all go out the window." She has no children of her own-Naomi loves her, and Miriam likes her as much as anyone who isn't me, Cayne or Naomi. But she seems to like the way I'm raising my kids...she's an occupational therapist working with kids who have challenges. She was telling me that after working with her clients all the time, my kids, who are both typical kids, seem brilliant.
My termite guy was here today. My annual visit with him reminds me of why I love small businesses. He's awesome, he's personable, he had no problem with Naomi "helping" him-she followed him around the house with her own flashlight as he did my termite inspection. And he chatted with her, and chatted with me. He's got a grandson just about the same age as Naomi. He was excited to see Miriam who wasn't born when he was here last year, and she followed him around too. His daughter in law does all his receptionist and billing and stuff, and when I spoke to her on the phone to make the appointment I found out that she was pregnant again and due in a couple of weeks-then today Termite Guy Andy told me that they were inducing her tonight because her blood pressure is going up. He's just a good guy, and I'm really pleased with his service. Much nicer than nameless, faceless, random guy from exterminating company coming to do my termite work.
We're having a December cold snap right now. I'm craving hot chocolate with marshmallows. Might even ask for one on the way home...
