The Truth about the Gay Agenda, Exposed (worksafe, but requires sound, and is bandwidth sucking yet amusing animation-I wouldn't try it over dialup.

And what in the world was the Governator thinking? How is getting married like selling crack?

I can understand (sort of) his comparison between having a mayor choose which laws are okay to break when it comes to marriage and the same thing when it comes to, say, drug sales. But I think he's missing a bigger point, that this is simply civil disobedience, and not much different than Rosa Parks or Stonewall. Of course, Rosa and the folks from Stonewall got in trouble, and folks in SF aren't so far (though they're prepared to be -- Mabel Tang, the city assessor who was behind the logistics of the Great Week o' Marriage, said at the reception, "If they want to come and arrest me, I'll go, but I want them to wait until I've finished the paperwork for that day's marriages").

But -- and I'm trying to say this without sounding an anti-immigrant bigot -- Arnold missed out on most of those years here. He got here after a lot of that work had been done, and he was insulated from most of it. He hasn't been innoculated by being bathed in the American tradition of civil disobedience. I don't think he really gets it, aside from intellectually, and intellectually, he thinks it's a bad thing.

This is an interestingly different kind of civil disobedience, though. Traditionally civil disobedience is done by those *outside* the system rather than inside it.

And, of course, another tradition is for those in power to consider civil disobedience as the criminal act it encompasses and not as part of a larger political statement.

Yeah... for some reason, the present Navajo situation comes to mind, even though it's not so much disobedience as outright practicality.

if you were watching "the L word" you would know the answer to how getting married is like selling crack. once you've had sex with a motss, you're never satisfied by motos sex again. it's how homoSEXshulls rope in the unwary. (on the the show, an unsympathetic character espoused this point of view.)
