So...

Anyone interested in trying to go look at wedding dresses with me one of these days?

I DO have a recommendation of a store to stay away from! But I can't remember the name of it right now. On 234 in Manassas.

Jeannette's Bridal? That's where I initially found the dress I wound up buying online. The women who work in that store are rude rude rude!

In the shopping centre with the K-Mart? I think I have blocked out their bad customer service over these last three years. :)

And to hell with David's Bridal too.

Elkor's mother owns a bridal shop, but it's in Hampton.

I'm not a huge fan of David's Bridal, but they are a great place to try things on. Most things on the rack are available in a full range of sizes, so you're not stuck trying to wiggle into a size 6 and imagine how it would look on your figure.

And although my mom made my dress, I went to the store to try things on -- because what you have in your head isn't always what looks good in the end. I wanted something very flowy but ended up with something much more structured.

Someday I'll charge for my services.. :)

Nod nod. I think some of their dresses go up to a size 26 or 28, which is a beautful feeling when you're used to stores which stop at a 14. ;)

A few suggestions:

Its worth bringing a camera with you so that when you find a style that you like, you can remember the dress. Even a $5 disposable is great, because after a while they all start to look the same.

Think about how you're going to behave in the dress -- strapless is cute, but if you're a maniac on the dance floor it may not be as practical.

When you dress to go try things on, pull your hair up and put on a supportive bra. It makes a huge difference.

I am personally inviting people to join my community, [livejournal.com profile] scrotal_digest. You fit both of my requirements (sharing a common interest--in this case, sexual health-- and not being a drama-addicted moron), and this is my invitation. I also share your enthusiasm for gay sheep. I grant posting access to people I invite and people who stay in the community for a week without making trouble in an attempt to keep it from becoming a troll-infested hell. I apologize if this is an unwanted solicitation; if it is then please delete my comment and you will never hear from me again.

[livejournal.com profile] geminigirl, pardon me for poking in on this thread, but I just have to laugh aloud at the invite being appended to this particular post.

The first foofy girly heteronormative-style post from you in, um, ever, maybe. And someone starts talking about scrotums and gay sheep.

Tee hee! Tee!

David's really is the best place to start because you can try on so many different styles and see what you like on you versus what you like on a page in a magazine. There's one over in Springfield.
