Anyone interested in a first forray into wedding dress hell with me? It would either be the weekend of 6/19 or 6/26 depending on which of those weekends I have to go to New York.
I would love to go with you, sweetie, but I'll be on my honeymoon 6/13 through 6/28. Any other time, I'd love to "relive" my wedding traumas of dress hunting with you!
Definitely bring a digital cam, because how it looks in the magazine sure as hell is different from how it looks on you in the mirror, sure as hell looks different in photographs. I swore that I'd get a dress with off-shoulder sleeves and big poofy gown, but once I looked at myself in it in photographs, I realized how silly I looked.
Don't bring too many people with strong opinions (read: two mothers, two bridesmaids, or any other hot-headed combo).
Do wear comfortable undies you aren't ashamed at us looking at ;) I didn't even think about this and had my sister staring at my hot-red lace undies when I dropped my jeans. (Oops.)
Don't buy into the hype the salespeople sell you (i.e. "OMG, you look GORGEOUS. BUY THE DRESS NOW. You look STUNNING. BUY THE DRESS NOW. You are so BEAUTIFUL. BUY THE DRESS NOW.) I fell for this one and bought the dress (which, granted, I love) for more than I wish I'd paid for-- I could've gotten it for $400 cheaper online (minus the service, alterations, storage, and discount on bridesmaid dresses, but still! It's a lotta money!).
You would really come down from NJ to here to do this? That's amazing.
I'm fortunate, a bit I suppose in the fact that I'll actually order the dress up north somewhere-either in New Jersey if we settle our housing situation before I order it, or near Mom and Dad on Long Island if that's still up in the air when I do. These are trips to find the dress, to find out what looks okay and not okay, and all that.
I think I might at least order some new bras before I go dress shopping. Not that a girl should need an excuse for buying new underwear.
Malaysia and Singapore. I've got lots of family members who financially couldn't fly over to attend my wedding here, so we're flying there to meet-and-greet.
My only anxiety about it all right now is surviving the 23-hour flight with B, a smoker... *shudders*
I'm all for it. And I'll bring a camera, but only *if* you do this on 6/19, as I'll be working at LR the following weekend. If you do it on 6/26, have someone take a camera with them & get front, back and side shots of each dress. Also, take shoes of the same heel height that you anticipate wearing (ie: if you're going to wear flats, take flats), and you might want to put your hair up in a bun or something so that you can get a clear picture of what the neckline will look like.
I have a digi cam too I have a party on the 20th though so my first choice if I had one would be the 26th. Would I be driving down to Greenbelt station and metro'ing in?
That would all depend on where we end up going. I've been pointed to one place in Frederick, and someone else mentioned a place on Route 7 in Alexandria...so I've got no definite plan yet.
