Jun. 10th, 2004 02:45 pmI'm scheduling the last of my programs, assuming I'm here through the end of the grant year.
A few more groups, six month follow ups with some of our peer educators, movie and discussions with them as well.
Next Wednesday, the department will be about half the size it was when I started.
It's terrifying and devastating to see how prevention education is falling apart.

Date: 2004-06-10 07:05 pm (UTC)(irony) Well, and a good thing too, since we know, thanks to the president, that it's all you condom-promoting, pro-sex people who are making people think that having sex is OK if they take sensible precautions, instead of scaring them into abstinence with distortions, untruths, and threats of hellfire and brimstone, the way you ought to be. (/irony)
It is frightful that this important service is not only being neglected but actively assaulted. Blessings on those who have worked on it so hard, and who will doubtless continue to do so, through whatever means are available.

Date: 2004-06-10 08:01 pm (UTC)It's hard to know that so much valuable work is going away, that people who are dedicated and compassionate, who care deeply for what they do are going to be unemployed.
And hope against hope that when the next round of CDC funding comes out soon, that some program...whether it's mine or someone else's in the region is funded. Because as of now, CDC isn't funding any prevention education programming for youth in the DC/NOVA area.
