My officemate (the one who slurps coffee and sometimes sings and is almost always on the phone for non-work things) is clipping his nails at his desk. Ick ick ick. I'm sorry but there are some things you just do at home.

I don't know why, but I have a weird pet peeve about people clipping their nails in front of me. So fine, I understand that some of this is my issue. But you just don't do it at work, unless it's one of those "yeah I broke a nail and need to clip and file it over and done with" sorts of things...he's sitting their clipping all of his fingernails. Ick.

While I read that I heard the clips. Yuck! There is this unwritten law of etiquette that says you don't clip things from your body that could be later used as dna samples. Jesus!

Put me down as another "ick!" vote. Emergency repairs are one thing, yes, but clipping them all is something best done in the warm, loving environment of one's own bathroom.

The thing that immediately comes to mind for is the "at work" part. I don't think that clipping nails is necessarily gross (unless one has no regard for where the discarded nail is going), but I have an issue with doing that at work. I get amused sometimes at the things that people do at work; I remind a friend of mine that I chat online with periodically that he is getting paid to talk to me. But getting paid to cut one's nails (in essence what he is doing) is Just Wrong.

So put me down as an Ick vote.

See, I know we all do a lot of "wanking" at work. I post to livejournal, chat on IRC etc. I still do get my job done. But personal hygeine in front of others...that's pushing the limit. I can see doing it in front of your partner, but I don't know about the whole work thing.
