I woke up about half an hour before the alarm went off today, and needed to use the bathroom. So I did. I'd left my alarm set for it's usual time, knowing that I didn't have to be in the office til half past ten, so I'd figured on watching Bare Naked Ladies on the Today show this morning, and lounging around.

I decided to get back into bed for another half hour or so, and couldn't deal. I could hear myself breathing. Not just breathing, but wheezing.

I am so hating this right now. I wanted to try and go off my asthma drugs (except the rescue inhaler) namely because they're expensive, and I'm fully expecting to not have health insurance for a while (despite [livejournal.com profile] aquariumgirl's insistance that with a chronic health condition I can't be without health insurance) but my medication (not including rescue inhaler or birth control pills) without health insurance would run somewhere in the range of $200 a month. Which is less than a lot of people pay for what they need, but it feels like a lot to me.

Hate hate hate hate asthma right now.

Do you have any ability to do any of this by mail? Or is that the price by mail already? Usually you can do 3months at a time...might help you get over the hump.

But I also think that [livejournal.com profile] aquariumgirl might be right - breaks in insurance can make it far more expensive when you get insurance later.

I'll email you in a sec..

I definately have to second aquariumgirl. Whatever ever ever you do, do not let your insurance lapse. If you are without coverage, when you try to get insurance again they can refuse to cover any exisitng conditions. That would mean coverage for your asthma ever again. Bad idea. Cobra should be available and while it is expensive it is better than not being able to get coverage

What she said. If there's any way you can afford to COBRA your insurance until you're re-employed, it may well be worth doing.

I actually know someone who was between jobs for a week, and during that week, he developed a nerve condition that had him in the hospital for most of the next year, and in rehab for 2 years after that. Fortunately for all concerned, he had continued his medical coverage.

DOOM! DOOM!

Seriously, though, does Cayne's job offer domestic partner benefits? You've probably already considered that possibility, but if not, it might be a way to get covered.
