An appeal to my friends...

So, for various purposes, which include the fact that very few exist, and dealing with the immigration people, I've been advised to make sure that I can document that Cayne and I are actually having a legitimate relationship. So I need a favor from some of you...

Photographs.

If you've got photos of us, can you please pass along a copy to one or the other of us. (I'll be happy to reimburse you for the cost of this if necessary.)

If you're hanging around with both of us, or at a party or event or something with us, and someone has a camera at hand (I'll try and make sure I've got mine) take a picture of us. It doesn't have to be a good picture, just as long as it's a picture.

I hadn't really given much thought to it, but someone mentioned it yesterday. So I've tried to find ticket stubs from stuff we did, and whatnot.

But if you go to Arisia, maybe we'll meet up with you then. (Did you see the anouncement of the date change?)

A friend of a friend of mine married a British man a few years ago. She had a problem getting into the UK on a fiancee visa, had to fly back to LA (where they had been living together) and find a ticket stub from a Dodgers game that they had attended together before she could get the visa.

If possible, every time you & Cayne get together over the next few months, make sure you do something (movie, play, etc) and keep all the ticket stubs.

And, if you like, next time he comes to town I can just follow you guys around with a camera like the papparazzi and take your picture! ;)

It's funny...I had shoved the ferry tickets from when we returned from Toronto into the case of my Palm Pilot, and when I took it out to charge it, the tickets were still sticking out. I tossed them on my desk, intending to throw them out and didn't-I just forgot. I think perhaps I'll get one of those expandable file foldery things and start sticking stuff in there.

If I could remember where I put the ticket stub from when we saw The Producers, that would be nice.

And since you haven't met him yet, I may take you up on the paparazzi offer. ;)

Its a good thing you guys go out and DO things. Can you imagine if all you did was sit at home, IM and not socialize? It would be impossible to prove that you were dating.

We do that sometimes. Do nothing. But you're right-it is good that we do stuff.

(And we're going to be at a party this weekend, which is a great place to take photos.)

You do also have this journal, the foo you called to meet everyone, and a fair number of people who know you're engaged, with and without pictures.

For example, I can remember getting together at La Madeline back during Pesah.

Thank you! There was the La Madeline Foo, and there was my birthday Foo. And hopefully a going away foo of some sort too, which invites and info will go up for soon.

First, that sounds stressful.

Second, I will gladly send you a scrapbook and some adhesives and stuff to get you started on a scrapbook -- that way you could have "documentation" at the tip of your fingers, as well as a nice memento of the time while you were dating.

Kathy...that is so incredibly kind of you to offer to do that. I've never done any serious scrapbooking before, so this is a great opportunity to do it, and a really purposeful way to start.

Wow, this gives me something to think about. I'm just about to start applying for US Permanent Residency, and I never thought about "proof".

If you're applying on the basis of marriage, you might check out immigration_wed-there are people who know a lot more than I do there.

I honestly never thought about it either. You meet someone, you fall in love, you get married. Who thinks about proving that your relationship is legitmate?

Or, my favorite thought...whenever I thought about marriage growing up, it never came with thoughts of green cards. They were the thing of sitcom plots, where people had to get married in order to stay in the country and silly things happened.
