What kind do you use? I found the ones I bought still aren't quite enough sometimes. Cayne rattles windows. At the moment, he's asleep on the couch next to me, and since he sleeps through anything, I'll probably leave him here and go up to bed soon-I'd go now but unplugging the computer would involve climbing over him and that might actually wake him.
(We're total opposites...I sleep rather lightly, and he sleeps heavily-I have no qualms about getting out of bed and sleeping on the couch...he gets upset that I don't wake him to do that. But why in the world should both of us be awake?)
I use the foam ones - these, generally (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=39878&catid=50311&trx=PLST-0-SRCH&trxp1=50311&trxp2=39878&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-SRCH). Sometimes they aren't enough, either.
I can't sleep if I forget them and he falls alseep before I do.
I find I can hold a full conversation through foam earplugs, and am beginning to consider wax ones for swimming. But while I sleep heavily once I sleep it's hard for me to fall asleep if I can hear loud breathing, and woe betide if there's real snoring or anything intermittent/nonrythmic.
I usually use foam ones or wax ones but I put them in (carefully) too far :-S
He may have allergies and something like Flonase would help open up the sinuses at night.
He might have sleep apnea, which could be very serious in the long run. If the allergy thing doesn't work, he should see a Dr. about it as soon as possible.
