Seen elsewhere:

"I have had this problem start last year with Victoria Secret Bras. I went to a dermatologist and he said that companies use chemicals such as formaldehyde to keep a bra in it's shape. That is then absorbed into the skin and allergy occurs. I don't know if I am the only one and if there is legal action that can be taken. TIA"

Legal action? WTF? That's like taking a peanut butter manufacturer to court because someone dropped a jar of peanut butter, and it broke, and you had an allergic reaction.

And we wonder about the CYA mentality that permeates so much of America...it's because of things like this.

Sounds a heck of a lot more likely that she's allergic to her detergent anyway.

Wow... do you know where I could find an infallible dermatologist? I mean, I've got some little things that are bugging me, and if I knew that I could get them handled PERFECTLY, I suppose I would.

And if I couldn't get them handled just so, presumably the infallible dermatologist could at least tell me who to sue.

I seems to me that if the textile companies know that formaldahyde is likely to cause a significant number of reactions (or that with a little care they would have nknown)and they don't warn people, then legal action is warranted.

No, it's more like if someone bought a jar of peanut butter, ate it, got sick, found out that there was formaldehyde in the peanut butter that made them sick, and sued the peanut butter manufacturer.

I think it's a reasonable to assume that an item of clothing that is worn close to the skin would not be impregnated with a substance that is harmful to said skin.
