If there ever were a movie I wanted to sit in a theatre with
wait,
messyjessy,
posthaste and
sandboxdiva to watch, it was In Her Shoes. It wasn't my favorite of Jennifer Weiner's books, but it was a good movie. They credit one guy as "Altecocker in Golf Cart"...this had me giggling quite a bit, and while Cayne also thought it was amusing when I explained it, it would have been much funnier if he'd understood without explanation.
If you're a Philly-familiar, they go to Pat's for Cheesesteaks, not Gino's, though the camera angle is such that you can see the proximity to Gino's. Philly is kind of a character in this movie on it's own.
Jennifer Weiner writes fat, smart, Jewish, and around my age women. There's just something about characters whose experiences ring true to my own so often.
We also saw Just Like Heaven, which was cute, and vaguely predictable;
zedrikcayne said, "Like Ghost, but with a happier ending." It was enjoyable...worth what we spent, anyway. Plus it has Rosalind Chao and Donal Logue, both of whom I like. (Being a bear-lover of sorts, I actually find Donal Logue kinda hot.) If you're a fan of Napolean Dynamite, Jon Heder is also in the film.
Other highlights (or lowlights) of the day.
"Hey Widget, show us your bad cat imitation." This has come to apply to a great deal of Widget's behavior. He's discovered just how much stuff he can move with a paw, which means things are getting knocked to the floor a lot more often. He also hung out in the sink while I was brushing my teeth tonight. Right now, I have two kittens keeping my right arm company and chasing the moving cursor. They are fascinated by the computer because it has the moving flashy thing. The thing!
We did some house-browsing today. Sort of poking around to try and see where houses we could afford are, and neighborhoods we might like. We haven't actually started looking, or talked to a realtor or any mortgage stuff, but we have an idea of what our range might be, and what we want.
But the best line of all today...Cayne and I were in the shower. (We were in a rush, and it was faster to get in the shower together and shower concurrently rather than one after another.) He was washing his face, and referred to "getting soap on his interface." I was confused. Apparently he refers to his "interface" as "the place where I used to have hair but I don't anymore...kind of the skin between where my hair is."
Tomorrow is "Soup Quest 5766" which is what I'm referring to as our running around like maniacs in order to get all the ingredients for chicken soup that aren't available at our regular grocery store. This would include a parsnip, a turnip and a container of rendered chicken fat. Everything else, I should be able to get just about anywhere we shop.
I'm looking forward to chicken soup, even if it is still almost 90 here.

Date: 2005-10-02 01:09 pm (UTC)She's one of the few authors who I go out and buy in hardcover, as soon as I can after the books come out. I got Good in Bed sort of accidentally, at one of those 2 for $20 kind of outlet mall bookstore kinds of places, when I had some other shopping to do at the mall, just because it looked interesting, and fun, and fell head over heels for the writing.
Anyway, go see it with your Mom or some good friends, if <lj user="palliddreamer" isn't up for it. I'm not sure how I got Cayne to go, but I don't think he hated it.
