The cats are fine. Beta's kind of grouchy. Gizmo's been sick-I've been calling her "Wheezie Cat" for about a week. (Last Friday she jumped into bed with Cayne and I and I noticed her eye looked oozy and swollen. The vet saw her on Monday and we're treating her for the same herpes infection that Beta had not long ago. I think we're going to keep the lysine up permanently as a preventive measure.) The vet looked at me when I brought her in, looked at the cat and said "You know what this is and how to treat it...why did you bring her in-you could have just called us for the medication." That was nice to hear. The techs obviously think I'm clueful as well, since they offered to give me an extra bottle of Clavamox, unmixed, in case we needed it again. (I declined. I'd rather let them mix it, plus they're right around the corner if we do need it-I wouldn't restart it without calling them first. I also don't know the dosing formula to do it safely, though I'm sure they could have given that to me.) Gizmo weighs about 8 lbs (3.8 kilos)-she's much smaller than Beta was at the same age. I'm guessing Widget is about 10 lbs or 4.5 kilos, which is closer to where Beta was, but still over a pound smaller. Beta is a little more than 17 lbs (8 kilos) now. Widget needs to go in and get some blood work, and then we'll make arrangements for them to be fixed.

	Beta under the sink Beta has decided that under the sink is a fun place to hide from the kittens. He likes to curl up on the towels.
	Fierce Oblivion This is one of the last pictures I took of Oblivion. I caught her mid-meow and she looks fierce and mean, when really she was just a sweetheart.
	Widget in the Cube We found these cubes at Target, they're great cat toys-the cats will climb in them, and roll them around the house.

	Mine! Widget stole the remote control and decided to take a nap.

We're never getting an orange cat again-- ours, Tyler, weighs 22 lbs. In the winter, he gets up to 25-27 lbs. A cat that Bri used to have, Tippy, was Tyler's brother (passed away few years ago) was 30 lbs!

Methinks orange cats are predisposed to being big un's!!

First...Obivion does look fierce and mean in that picture. It's really a very cool picture for that very reason.

My own experience with orange cats is that they're often big cats, often not the brightest cats around, and generally have incredibly sweet personalities. I was actually hoping, when we went looking to adopt kittens, to find an orange one, or an orange pair. We ended up with the two tabby cats, who are special in their own way...one of the most amusing things to me is that the three of them seem to have established a schedule, according to which they take turns demanding attention from me, and climbing in my lap for cuddling.

Mom and Dad adopted four kittens in the last few months, bringing their household total to thirteen...one of them is orange, and I'm waiting to see what kind of a cat he turns out to be.

The photo of Oblivion was a complete accident. I love that photo of her though. I may turn it into a userpic one of these days.

There were a lot of other jokes I made about that picture, but because I wanted to share it with a ten year old we know, I decided on that caption...though someone did ask me about the leg sticking out.

Yep. Thirteen. Spot, Mugs, Larry, Moe and Curly, Les, Kitty-Kitty, Harley, Scardey Cat, Kanga, Roo, Huckle and Baker. They had ten, then Humphrey died a few months ago. Dad saw a pair of kittens when he had Les at the vet one day, was going to take them home, and between the time he took Les home and came back to the vet, the kittens were gone. So Mom and Dad were on a kitten kick, they went to a shelter, ended up not adopting kittens, then Mom was in the little pet store on her way home from work, and saw a pair of kittens (who became Kanga and Roo,) fell in love, and took them home. Meanwhile a friend of my brother's girlfriend ended up with a litter of kittens, one of whom (Huckle, named for the character in Richard Scarry's books) was orange-my Dad has a weakness for orange cats, and has wanted one for several years, ever since his cat (Biscut) had to be put down. So they took in Huckle, when he was old enough, but my parents prefer to take in cats in pairs, and so they took in Baker (as in Baker's Dozen), the last cat in the litter, as well.

So yes...thirteen cats. Cayne says I can't have any more than what we have now...

I love your kitty posts. Orange cats are my favorite! My brother and his wife have two orange ones, Kobe and Kip. They look identical. Except Kip has a little hook at the end of his tail from a previous injury. I want a cat! I am looking to adopt an adult cat from the SPCA after the holidays. I want either an orange one, or one of those siamese/mix looking ones. Do you know what I mean? The grey/beige ones? I think they are gorgeous.

The kittens are adorable. I laughed nearly hysterically at Cayne with the cat in his shorts.
