Did I write about my mother yet?
Nov. 14th, 2005 09:24 pmNo, apparently I didn't write about today's e-mail.
I checked my email this morning, and there was a very nicely apologetic e-mail from my mother. Kind of an "ooops, I messed up."
My mother's department has traditionally gone to see new Harry Potter movies as a group, early in the afternoon on the day it opens...they wait for the children of the professors to get out of school and go to a show shortly after that. One of the grad students who likes to participate in this tradition is going to be in a conference in Tampa this weekend.
Somehow, one of them got the very clever idea that I/we should go with Diane to the movie, not realizing that Tampa is an hour and a half or two hours from here.
I like Diane. She and her boyfriend (who I could do without) come to our place for Thanksgiving, and she's an interesting person-I hung out in her office sometimes when I was a grad student. But I don't understand how my mother (because I'm almost certain it had to be her, since I don't think I know Diane well enough for her to suggest it herself) came up with this plan without thinking to look at how far Tampa actually is from where I live.
I'll go, and if we go late, Cayne probably will as well...because you do nice things for nice people. I'm still just baffled at how this very clever plan was created.

Date: 2005-11-15 04:19 am (UTC)We may try and get Diane up here to go to Disney (she's a huge Disney fan, teaches a class on Disney and American culture, and yet has never been to Disney World.) And since I haven't been to the Magic Kingdom in a long time, only Epcot, it'll be fun.
