Aug. 4th, 2006 12:46 amCayne described the sleep doctor as "somnolescent" which I find rather amusing for a specialist in sleep disorders. His imitation was priceless, but he's sleeping now, so I can't get him to post it. I didn't go with him, so I haven't met the sleep specialist, but it is an interesting description.
The sleep guy was surprised that he has problems with what sounds like apnea-he says it usually happens in peope who are smaller (Cayne has a 22 inch neck) and therefore have less space for things to happen. But, appabrently his symptoms are "classic" and they've scheduled a sleep study for September 16, but will call us if there's a cancellation. (They had one today, and so the intake appointment was moved up from August 16 to today.) He says the most effective treatment, and the likely first one is to try a CPAP machine, and if that doesn't work, there's a dental appliance that might work. The last resort is surgery, but, according to this guy, it's only successful 50-60% of the time, and most people end up with recurring problems within a few years. It looks promising. I get my husband back.
