I feel worn out. And I'm not sure it's all the lifting/bending/moving/unpacking, or just being worn out. I should head to bed momentarily, but the house is eerily quiet...Cayne's at his sleep study, and I'm used to the background noise that he provides in the evening. I met him for dinner, near his office and he was dragging. He hadn't had any caffeine since about noon, which is unusual for him. He went from dinner directly to the sleep lab, and I stopped to pick up a baby gift for two of Mom's grad students who I'm friendly with (the baby was born a day or two ago, three weeks early, according to Mom) and a few other things.

I'm at an age where I end up buying lots of baby gifts...there was a phase when it was bar/bat mitzvahs, and then confirmations, and then of course graduation, then in my mid twenties, weddings, and now, it's baby things. I suppose at some point it will become funerals too.

I'm avoiding bed. And I really ought to go, so I can get up early, and shower, and go to my appointment, and the post office and then of course, back to unpacking. I just can't wrap my head around the eerie quiet.

I suspect you'll have many years of birthday and graduation gifts for your friends' children, and then retirement gifts for your friends, before funerals become an issue. And besides, funerals aren't exactly a top gift-giving occasion, the individual in question being, well, no longer around to appreciate them. :-)
