Does anyone have a copy of Hale's or another really good resource for pregnancy, breastfeeding and US available meds? I have a question that I've yet to ascertain a definitive answer to, and I might as well put it into the notes for my April doctor's appointment if I can find an answer.

Frova (Frovatriptan) or triptans in general for migraine treatment.

It is an L3, according to Hales. He says that there are no good studies on it, but reccomends Imitrex (sumatriptan), as there are studies on that and he feels comfortable with a pregnant and/or nursing mom taking it.

Thanks for looking it up. Sounds like it's fine until I get a new prescription for something else...I'll see if a beta blocker or an SSRI is a better choice when I see them in April.

I'm looking for information about migraine meds-Frova (frovatriptan) specifically, but triptans in general. I'm trying to figure out if an occasional triptan dose is a better choice than a beta blocker or SSRI. I'd rather not have to take a daily med, but if the triptans are clearly a bad choice, I'll ask about switching when I go back in April (I'm assuming I won't be pregnant before then, but one can hope.)

I'll see what I can find for you. I'll tell you up front that I'm biased against SSRIs during pregnancy, but I'll definitely see what I can find when I've got a little time.

I'd rather not do an SSRI if I can avoid it, but, a lot of the stuff that would be used not during pregnancy is not okay to use, so the choices are limited. Unless they get more frequent during pregnancy (which is possible) I can stick to a triptan, like Imitrex, as needed, which is what I'd actually prefer to do, unless something else is safer. (Not having migraines would be ideal, or having ones that responded to something where I didn't have to think so much about whether it was okay or not, would be much better.)

I second the community suggestions. Do keep in mind though that safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding are different animals, so be sure you specify that it's pregnancy you're asking about.

It's both. I'd rather play around with what works now, before it's a concern when I can crawl into bed and be miserable if I need to, without someone else depending on me much.

Others answered your question-don't forget That I unfortunately had to become an expert on managing asthma in pregnancy, so if that pops up, let me know. But hopefully you'll be in the lucky 1/3rd whose asthma gets better.

we usually rec imitrex and fioricet for migraines during pregnancy.

Thank you. It seems like it may be worth a phone call or an e-mail to see about switching the migraine meds, instead of refilling the script I have.

no problem. it might be worth it to follow up sooner rather than later, yeah - you might be able to find out if it'll work for you before you're stuck (pregnant and with a migraine, with meds that don't cut it sounds unfun to me).
