"Apparently, as a healthy, successful woman in her 30's, I don't deserve to have a baby. Maybe I'd have a fighting chance if I were gay, or a teenager, or a member of the AARP."

Kate Walsh as Addison Montgomery on Grey's Anatomy

Icon love, and hugs offered.

Mildly confused by the quote. What was going on on Grey's?

I ran into someone in a community, recently, who has three kids, just turned 20, and she's specifically not telling her babies' bio-daddies about them, so she doesn't have to share legal rights, decision-making, etc. She's the only one. And she tries to get pregnant, it's a very happy thing for her.

I just had to close her LJ and walk away, I couldn't sit there with it open. It made my brain go numb.

Addison's trying to get pregnant, but found out she's out of eggs.

It would upset me, too. I have two daughters born before I was twenty. And that still doesn't negate the fact that children have the right to know their parents.

As for the quote . . . while I understand the harshness of trying to conceive and the feelings of alienation associated with it (I'm a former fertility patient), the amount of shit teenaged mothers get for being pregnant is insane. The amount of bias the kids of gay parents get is insane. I don't know about how people react to elderly parents. So no one else gets off easy, either.

Yes. And in an expanded definition, consuming oxygen as a member of human society gets you shit somehow.

You learn to shake it all off. Or you listen to your detractors and go mad.

In other words:

"There seemed to be several avenues open to me. I could (a) take myself seriously and end up drinking gin after the school bus left, (b) take the children seriously and end up drinking gin before the school bus left, or (c) admit to the fear and frustration and have a good time with it." - Erma Bombeck

Clomid cost me < $30 for one cycle. This was in 1999, but still. Since there's generic clomiphene citrate, it's not too pricey.
