This very brief, but very serious video has been making its way around my f'list for the last day or so. I encourage my friends to watch it very carefully and heed the message.

Tragically, [livejournal.com profile] zedrikcayne didn't know he might have it and had never gotten the shot. And even though my sister gave him one when we were there for Thanksgiving, (please don't ask how it came up...I don't even think I could tell you, but there were four of us-my brother, my sister, Cayne and I sitting there talking about cooties, and we discovered that he'd never gotten a cootie shot. Now it might be too late. And I hadn't even thought to ask. I thought everyone had theirs by the time they were seven or eight.

Do it for the children.

And thanks to [livejournal.com profile] melebeth, [livejournal.com profile] scherzoid and [livejournal.com profile] beaq who all posted the video already.

Thank you so much for this important PSA. I don't remember if I had the shot as a kid (it really wasn't all that prevalent in mid-80's WNY)...can one inoculate themself?

I NEED THIS SHOT NOW WHERE DO I GET IT!

I can't believe USCIS tested me for TB and insanity, but forgot this one.

I got tested for German Measles (no immunity) but not for insanity. Phew.

Um, you know how they test for insanity, right?

Yes. The biographical form, 325-A, where you have to list all your affiliations since your 18th birthday.

Actually, for me it was during the medical screening in which the doctor, while interviewing me for my immunization and medical history checked that I was not insane. And that is how that box gets checked for GCs: the USCIS doc finds you during the interview to not be insane. She showed me.

My immigration doctor did a cursory examination and reminded me of the necessity of advance parole.

No, actually. I could have declined, stating I knew the value and risks of vaccines. However since all my other shots are current and because I know what rubella can do, I got jabbed. If I don't have immunity to rubella now (after 4 infant immunisations, a booster as a pre-teen, and again last year)... i dunno.

I wonder how old you have to be to generally have gotten your immunity ro German Measles from getting German Measles. I never even heard of Rubella until they had a shot for it, which was after my siblings and I didn't need it anymore. My sister, the youngest, was born in 1965. I'm pretty sure they had a shot by 1969, when Sesame Street came on the air.

There was a rubella outbreak in southern Ontario in the fall of 2005, amongst the followers of a religious sect that refused vaccinations. http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2005/05/05/rubella-outbreak050505.html
