I thought you all should know...

there was foot visible in my abdomen today.

At least I think it was a foot, based on the location. I poked at it, and it poked back, and I grabbed it and it wiggled.

We did baby-laundry this weekend. Need to figure out the best way to prep the prefolds I've got that are brand new (my medium and larges, all from my sister in law.) Any suggestions, prefold users?

A tiny little baby foot!

It wiggled!

That fascinates me ... and makes me giggle.

awwww..

all our prefolds were 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) hand, so they were already thirsty. I've heard boiling and also just washing a few dozen times. :)

Wash on hot with detergent, drying in between. After each dry, test them by putting a drop of water on them. If it absorbs instantly, they're ready. If it beads up at all, they're not. If you have any questions on whether it absorbed instantly or not, it probably didn't. Boiling works too, and is probably less water/energy intensive overall, but I've never tried that so I don't know how long you need to boil them. It took something like 3 or 4 cycles for mine to be ready, but it's been several years so I can't remember entirely, and depends somewhat on the brand.

I boil prefolds and then run them through the dryer 2-3 times until they're all fluffy and happy. I usually get some dye too and make them fun colours. I only really used them when he was a newborn (we used mostly pockets and sold them off as we went along to cut costs) but that always seemed to work. I used mostly Chinese unbleached too, though I had a couple of Indians laying around.
