I could just put up photos on doomcookie.us (our domain) but I'm really not sure I feel like that-there are certainly plenty of ready to use photo hosting websites out there. And since I figure that there will be a lot of photos to come, and some less than web-savvy users (my parents, for example) who will want to look at them, I'm trying to figure out where to host photos. I know at least one person who uses Flickr Pro and is happy with it. I've used Flickr (not the pro) and liked it. I've used Picasa and felt no particular love or hate. I don't mind paying a reasonable subscription fee per year for the photo hosting.

Who does your photo hosting and what do you like or dislike about them?

Me three.

It's nice b/c you can look at each photo in all sizes and folks can order prints very easily. It's been beyond great for me.

I use photobucket - not too thrilled with them. I pay and I still have annoying pop up stuff from them. But I pretty much had to pay, because I had all my business stuff on there and then one day *boom*, I was out of bandwidth. So I knew all my clients were getting that dorky looking "Upgrade to PhotoBucket Pro Today!" thing. And yeah, that doesn't look good. But since I just use it for putting pictures up on journals, myspace, etc., it works fine.

I use Flickr (Pro). It's easy - and reliable. Unlike every other service I've tried in the past, it never goes down.

I use photobucket. Sometimes it acts retarded, but usually it's fine. Plus, it's free.

I'm going to add my 'me too' - I love flickr + Picasa to organize on my desktop. It is worth it to upgrade to Pro, imho, if you are uploading gajillions of photos (as one is apt to do upon the arrival of a new one).

I use smugmug.com for my photo hosting. I actually have a internet friends account and a family account. They're $35 - $40 a month, but they have a very nice interface that doesn't get in one's way.

whitebird.smugmug.com is one of them.

I also use SmugMug. Options for uploading/keeping your albums in sync are a little more limited than Flickr (at least from the Mac side of things), so you might want to check that out.

However, unlimited uploads and picture sizes (I think - or insanely high limits); you can specify by album whether you want people to be able to download the originals; lots of control over hidden albums, password protection, album style, etc.

Actually, there is a full smugmug download client available which works great in OS X. And, now, there's a rather nice iTunes plugin which makes moving pictures to smugmug even easier.

While there's more than one good uploader for SmugMug, keyword support is spotty, there are sometimes hoops to jump through, and there's no way to synchronize albums between iPhoto and SmugMug. Say, if [livejournal.com profile] bitty adds some tags or geocodes to smugmug, I'd like to bring them back into iPhoto. Or if I add two pictures to a SmugMug album, I'd rather not have to remember exactly which pictures they are -- I'd rather the computer update just those two.

These aren't necessarily _easy_ things for an uploader to do, and there are plenty of things that it seems like you can only do well with SmugMug. But sometimes I wish I'd gone with Picasa or even .Mac hosting for the synchronization bits.

I have used flickr with no complaints - it's a good possibility for you!

But for comparison, I created this album to "show" my mom last week using Picasa and uploaded it to my own serevr. I like using the free Picasa program for storing, indexing, searching and editing my pictures on my computer ... so than it was really easy to publish them.
