My friend Tracy (whose baby was due about a week before mine) had her baby this morning. This is quite scary, because if she went early (by about a week) that means theoretically my baby could be here next week. The reality is that the baby could arrive any time now.

I get overheated very quickly right now. I work in fits and starts, then sit and take a break and drink lots of liquid, and do more. I should go do more work in the guest room after this LJ post I think.

My freezer is filling up with yummy food. Cayne took care of mailing out a pile of packages that needed to go out. I think there were about half a dozen destined for LJ users.

I just played "Cowboys are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other" for Cayne-he'd never heard it before, so I grabbed it from ITunes. It came up earlier today, when I was talking about Pansy Division, who I love. He commented on the song "James Bondage" which came over the IPod earlier (the IPod is plugged into my IHome) and liked it. I mentioned the name of the band. Later on, the song "Cocksucker Club" was on, and I pointed out that I probably should stop playing that kind of music in front of the baby until I'm ready to explain "cocksucker." But the cowboy thing-I love the Pansy Division cover version of the song, and don't know what happened to the recording I had.

In case anyone was wondering about my husband...I've always teased him a little bit, for some of his taste-he loves things like Abba, LOGO (the gay-oriented TV channel) the Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, and so on. Yesterday, while we were umbrella shopping, in addition to the compact umbrella that I suggested he purchase for his diaper bag (he has his own, so it can live in his car and he'll be far less inclined to forget to take it with him-it's the whole absent minded programmer stereotype, but he lives up to it) he also chose a second umbrella. A very large umbrella. A very large rainbow umbrella. He makes me giggle. I'm just amused that of all the various umbrellas to choose he gravitated towards the rainbow one. Hrm. Queer-core and a big giant rainbow umbrella. He's an odd one.

I did finally order a car seat. Last weekend's kitchen disaster and the contractions that followed scared me. A lot. As in "the baby is going to come and I'm going to have nothing ready" so I ordered the car seat. Most everything else is coming together nicely. My project for today is to finish re-organizing the guest room, and it's going very well. I need Cayne's help with the next part because it involves lifting a box that would be on the heavy side for me when not-pregnant, and when I'm pregnant, forget it. I'm not even trying. When we've done that, I can finish that up, maybe even today. And that would please me greatly. My chiropractor has stopped adjusting parts of my back-according to her, they're going to affect the sympathetic nervous system, which could slow or stall labor, so she's only adjusting the parts that will affect the parasympathetic nervous system, and that should help labor. She'll probably come over while I'm in labor and do some things that can help keep me feeling good and encourage labor. If I start pushing the comfort level of how far post-date is "okay" with my health care provider, I also have the name and number of an acupuncturist who is supposed to be very good at getting labor going. (I'm hoping to not go that far, but it's totally possible.)

I overdid it yesterday though. Up early, to the lab to get blood drawn, then breakfast, then the restaurant supply store, Build a Bear, a snack (because I was feeling overheated and thirsty and needed to sit down) and two other stops in the mall-one for a few baby things, one to try and buy underwear for me, since a lot of mine is pretty ratty and I figure that after lochia is a good time to replace it. No underwear purchased-I didn't like the color choices in the style I like, so I can either try the other store, or order it online...it's a toss up as to the cost, because the promo is the same online and in the store...it's a question of tax+gas+my energy vs shipping. After that, lunch, grocery shopping and home. Home involved dinner, putting groceries away and more nesting.

Too much stuff to do. Too little energy.

I am amused at the thought of getting an umbrella now when there will be very little rain to speak of until October.

Oh yeah. You're not actually anywhere near the central Califoria coast. ;)

Nope. Our rainy season will start shortly...which means a brief daily downpour usually between about 2 and 5 PM. I don't mind it, unless I get caught driving in it-driving in rain so heavy you can't see what's coming, or what's in front of you=not happy.

Actually, never mind answering, I just wanted to pull that up again because I am so happy for you it has actually happened and how far you both have come.

I do want to point out that having a goddamn chiropractor at your delivery is really going to put a dent in the "I went through hell delivering you" guilt trip Your People are expecting you to warp the next gen with.

Point the first-I think I will carry with me for a long time, mixed emotions about how I got here. I don't think that having a child will replace it, but at the same time, I've accepted that things are as they are, and no amount of worrying about it will change that. I can be hopeful that if/when we decide to try again, pregnancy will have adjusted my cycles to a point where we won't need to go that same route, but it may not. And if that's the case, perhaps I won't have the same reluctance to take Clomid again. Further investigation into the tools that helped determine the best course of treatment revealed that the luteal phase of my cycle-the part that needs to be long enough for the fertilized egg to implant is, on average, short-it's one day longer than most doctors will use to diagnose "luteal phase defect" but that may still be too short for my body. Clomid can help correct that. It's possible that other methods can be used to help that if it remains that way after pregnancy, and it's possible they won't (it's hard to say-pregnancy can cause so many things to change, or none at all.) It's also possible that I'll have less/no difficulty getting pregnant should we do this again. I'm not holding out strong hopes for that, but I think the path to the choice will be different, because I've gone through some of the anger and grief and frustration already.

I'm happy and terrified about what's happening right now. If that provides you with a better picture. I think he is too. Putting the crib together was a big step towards that reality. I think the car seat thing is as well. It's very different for him though-I've gone through the physical changes, and no matter how sympathetic he is, I don't think there's any way to translate that to the real feeling of someone beating you up from the inside.

As for point the second...I can't speak for anyone else, but I think there are plenty of ways I can warp my offspring without the need for a delivery related guilt trip. I'd be remiss in my parenting if I needed to resort to that technique.

I'm really making an effort to get eight to ten hours of sleep, in hopes that it will lead to shorter labor. I'll often go to bed though and stay there for an hour thinking "I should be up doing (some task that isn't really essential but feels like it right now)" which does complicate things a bit.

Thinking ahead to the actual date, will Cayne be able to jot a quick note on your journal to let us know how everything went? I know there are a million other things on y'all's minds but I thought I would toss it out there.

We're working on formulating a plan for actually getting the news out. I'm sure there will be something here-a post to LJ either via voice, texting or actually sitting down and making a post. I think that <lj user="whitebird" also has offered to get some photographs up-what we'll likely do is snap a few with the camera phone and get those online for anyone who wants visual evidence and post better photos later on when we're home. We'll see.

It is amazing that he or she might be with you so soon! As you know, I didn't feel "ready" when Erika was born, but it really was OK. :-)

On a random note, are you aware of the National Library of Medicine's LactMed database? It's a useful alternative/add-on to a copy of Hale's, and does contain info on Metformin.
