Baby Watch 08, Day 1 (Due date -1)

Kinda like a French Toast Emergency, but I think the weather is better. (Even if it has been raining quite a bit here today.)

No baby yet. Tomorrow is the due date. Which means very little in reality, as this baby will show whenever it's the right time, though my big concern right now is not going more than two weeks beyond tomorrow (4/21) because at that point, I really can't object to induction. But that's my big worry right now...going so far past my EDD that induction becomes more necessary and less optional. (Typically the OB likes to induce closer to 41 weeks than 42 weeks. I pushed for 42 weeks because that's when the placenta issues become a bigger concern and because as a first timer, my chances of going late are far greater than going early.)

I will try and make sure to post once a day or so, in order to make sure that people don't wonder whether I've wandered off to have a baby or something and forgotten to tell you all about it. If you are worried, the best thing to do is to either try and IM me, or to ask zedrikcayne. People are apparently calling my mother (better than calling me, for what it's worth.) At the wedding they were at last weekend, it seems that people had all sorts of things to say, about whether it's a boy or a girl (she told them "We don't know" and directed them to my younger sister who does know) and saying how wonderful it would be for her to be here when the baby is born (uh, no it wouldn't and she and I both recognize that, and agreed from the outset that it would be bad for both of us. In fact, the midwife I saw last week complemented me on the fact that both Mom and I recognize that it would be a really unhealthy and awful thing if she were to be here for the birth.)


On and off, people have asked about the registry. It's at Babies R Us and is #69990408. However, I must be upfront and say that no one should feel obligated to send anything, of course, that I would love it if experienced and knowledgeable people wanted to deviate from said registry, and that one thing I would love, if people do want to send things is books. Seriously. Every baby should have a fantastic library, and every parent and child has their own favorite books. A couple of people have asked for snail mail addresses-I will get those e-mails out in a few minutes, and if you're still looking for that, let me know.

Time for some dinner, I think and some shopping online. zedrikcayne has asked me to acquire a few more diaper covers, and some more fitted-type diapers for very small babies, (I think I'll just buy a couple of Kissaluvs in size 0, but I have to tell you that considering the variety of cloth diaper options ad the cuteness factor, I'm glad he seems to be into the concept even if his motivation is different than mine) plus I need a couple of other things like another sheet for the co-sleeper and stuff. I'm better about shopping these days, as it doesn't require a lot of standing, although I admit, the spending money part is a bit stressful right now, especially when I can't remember if I paid the mortgage or not, and I go to look at the bank account to check and see if I had only to discover that if I hadn't, then I've really made a disastrous mess of our finances for the moment. It will be nice if I ever do really get my brain back.

According to Nancy (my ex-girlfriend and CNM), her mother would scrub to kitchen floor on her hands and knees when she wanted labor to start. Maybe a bit old-fashioned, but it seemed to work for five kids.

You do have diaper covers coming at some point. Mostly mediums, which is why I haven't been in a huge hurry about them.

Yeah, I thought the ones you were sending were mediums, so I figured I'd buy a couple of newborn/small covers. If he'd asked a couple of weeks ago, I'd have bought used ones, but I think I'll just spend the money for new ones so that they arrive quickly enough.

BTW, I've decided that BellaBottoms are what I'd buy if I were looking to buy new fitted diapers today. Cute, one-size, good reviews, and inexpensive, especially considering MotherEase seems to have raised their prices recently. One-size diapers often don't really fit well for newborns, so I don't know if it really fits what you're looking for.

On day 12 of being overdue, I decided to overdo it. :)

Its was such a shock for me, going from "I'm pregnant" one moment to "I have a baby" the next. Try to enjoy it as much as possible. :)

My contractor is going to be at the house working Monday and Tuesday, if you want to gab on the phone...

I may take you up on it, since I've been largely banished to the couch at this point. I've hit the "really too large to safely drive anywhere that isn't necessary" point in the last few days, too, so I'll be home.

We did get some pineapple today. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what to "overdo" to get things going. Maybe going to play skeeball will help.

Everyone told me to have lots of sex. I wasn't allowed any activity at that point though because of the blood pressure/ blinding headaches/ ore-ecclampsia.

I like skeeball. Lots of dipping down.

Kudos to anyone who can manage teh sex during the home stretch.

We're managing the sex. Sort of. It's kind of awkward, but we make it work. And, as the doula and midwife both pointed out the other day...if you can't make intercourse work, make sure that when you insert the evening primrose capsule, that you're having orgasms too. It doesn't matter if it's from intercourse or oral sex.

I *heart* skee ball. In fact, our plan for early labor is that if the time of day is right, that's where we're going. Skee ball, a little food, maybe a little beer for Maggie and Cayne. I'm all psyched for it.

Any chance you could post a list of the books Baby already has, so that we don't duplicate purchase? If it is a long list, I certainly understand 'no' as an answer!

My in laws are coming in about a month-the second weekend in May. My parents are coming "when you tell us to" which is really great of them. And they mean that...I'll get no nagging or questions about when they should come. They've been really great about the whole thing though-came to see us in October, we were at their place in November, and then Mom was here last week. I'll probably tell them to come some time in May, and then we'll go up there in June or July to see other family who aren't going to fly down to hang out with us and the baby.
