So unless the baby decides to make an appearance in the next 27 minutes (unlikely, and if s/he did, I'd be delivering him/her all by myself in the house) I'll officially be "post date"-which means nothing at all, really.

The car seat will get inspected on Wednesday afternoon, after my doctor's appointment. Now if we could only get the taxes done, it would be terrific. I'm more anxious about that getting done in time than I am about the baby's arrival, sometimes. Sometimes. I'm really trying just to relax and enjoy things right now.

My sister called to ask if I thought the baby would come today. I wanted to point out to her that babies don't have calendars in the womb.

I'm fidgety today. I've gathered just about everything that we want in the hospital bag-a few things missing...some clothes for Cayne, lip balm and hard candy for me, my meds...stuff like that. It's all in a laundry basket in the bedroom right now. I also reorganized the linen closet. Back when I was in high school, we had a cat who got pregnant. She was a sweet cat, too. Now one would expect the cat to retreat away from people when getting ready to give birth, but this cat, just before, while she was in labor, was wandering around the house, aimlessly, mewling. I was home, so I picked her up, set her in my lap and figured I'd pet her a bit, as she was probably uncomfortable. I felt contractions, I freaked out, and called my mother, who pointed out that there wasn't anything I could do, and so I brought her to the box we'd set up for her to give birth in, in the closet she'd very clearly staked out as her spot for giving birth. I walked away, under the impression that animals usually like to be left lone to give birth. She followed me. Several times. I turned the box on its side, thinking perhaps that it was too high for her to be comfortable in, and she still followed me. She insisted that I sit in the closet with her while she delivered the litter of kittens. Six little kittens, she licked them clean, removed the umbilical cord, ate the placenta and before they nursed, nudged them at me.

Anyway, I feel like the aimlessly wandering fidgety cat. Can't sit still.

I can't help but wonder if that means something is happening.

I was thinking of you and discussing you with lj-badmagic this weekend. We walked by a place where you and Dean and I got sozzled. Waaaaaaay too many martinis for me.

Joe thought maybe you'd had the baby, and I declared you hadn't, unless it had happened between that morning and the time of the discussion.

I win.

Mew. Mew.

It certainly can mean that something is happening. On the other hand, prelabor can last a long, long time, so the "something" that is happening may not = "baby coming out soon."

I'm sure you know that average gestation for a first baby is 41 weeks, 1 day. Make sure you don't wear yourself out waiting! Keeping my fingers crossed for you...

Good luck! Thinking of you! Excited for you! :)

And yes, I think the extreme restlessness is common right before you go into labor. Part of it is psychological, of course, "Alright already, where's the baby?!" but I think there's a bio-chemical component as well. Eeeeee! Impending baby!
