I must be a terrible mother because my under-2 year old had peanut butter. :)

Although our pediatrician was pretty easygoing about food suggestions when we saw him with Naomi for her one year well baby visit. He said "She can pretty much eat anything now-just watch her for choking. And be careful with nuts because she has no teeth."

We don't have any peanut butter allergies in our family, but he wasn't eating anything solid until almost 12 months. He LOVES eating peanuts.. and peanut butter. Mmmm.

Naomi's doctor wouldn't blink. There are others who would string me up for giving a child under 2 or 3 years old nut-products.

I'd gathered that. I've known a few mothers who would string you up. If my mother was there she'd give Naomi a peanut butter an jelly sandwich (put through the blender cause of the lack of teeth).

And some who are rethinking that, and thinking that perhaps the ridiculous prevalence of nut allergies might have something to do with prohibiting them until 2 or 3 years.

Sweetheart, I assure you that should you have another couple, by Baby #3, you'll barely be noticing enough to get the kid's hand out of the used coffee grounds.

My mother had five, the first four within 3 years. I'm taking her word on it.

We were actually laughing about it. I just don't see it as the crisis that some people (like my sister in law, who refuses to even eat a peanut product while pregnant) make it out to be.

I wasn't hung up on waiting til 2 to give her peanut butter/nut products though...it's one of those things that she hadn't had because we just haven't had it to offer her. I'd been eating a snack of unsalted pretzels dipped in peanut butter while she was out with Papa this afternoon though, and left the peanut butter dish a little too close to the edge of the table, and little curious baby fingers got into it.

We waited on some things til it was easier to be able to tell that something was bothering her-stuff like berries and citrus. Peanut butter was just one of those things that we don't eat very often so it hadn't been offered-I was dipping pretzels into peanut butter while she was out with her Papa though and left the dish too close to the edge of the table and baby fingers made a mess.

Do people really avoid peanuts while pregnant? I would starve without peanut butter, it's hard enough to give it up for Passover.
